I feel like a conversation about homosexuality would be more product with some members of the 12 then with others. Also, Elder Bednar will forever be remembered by me for his prop 8 video:
President Monson has made reactivation a keystone of his ministry, and instituted a program called "To The Rescue" to reach out and reclaim the lost sheep. What specifically is the Church going to do to rescue the throusands of Gay Latter-day Saints that have left the Church or otherwise been alientated and ostracised? What specifically is the program for Gay LDS members? How do we fit in? How does the Church plan on helping to meet our social/emotional needs?
Elder Bednar, How I can I show an increase of love to my gay family members and friends, while being fully supportive of the church's stance against gay marriage?
Elder Bednar, I understand that we are to love our gay brothers and sisters while hating the sin of homosexual behavior. How can I show that love, while still making it clear to them that I hate what they're doing?
If only 1% of LDS church members are gay, that's still more than 138,000 gay Mormons based on the church's 2009 Statistical Report. That would fill a couple of large football stadiums full of Gay Mormons. There can't really be that many gay Mormons, can there? Why would our Father in Heaven do that to anyone?
If your daughter fell in love and wanted to marry a young man who was homosexually oriented but who promised to abstain from same-sex relations, how would you advise her? Would you recommend that she go through with the marriage?
In D&C times, the Lord saw fit to give specific Prophetic direction to individuals in the Church who requested it. Later in the Church history, the Brethren recognized significant stress caused by their understanding of revelation related to Plural Marriage and later to the status of people of African decent, but the Lord did not clarify until the Brethren sought specific revelation on those topics. The most conservative estimates suggest there are hundreds of thousands of Saints with same-sex attraction, but the doctrinal direction they receive is almost entirely directed at what they must not do, rather than how they can actively and righteously pursue happiness given that a successful eternal relationship with a member of the opposite sex is not currently an achievable goal. Is it reasonable for them to petition the Brethren to seek specific prophetic revelation to give them that direction? Have the Brethren put such a question directly to the Lord as a body in the way they did with previous issues? Why hasn't the Lord responded?
I am curious- did you get called on? And, what kinds of questions was the man given and what did he have to say? Will you be kind enough to share these with us?
I'm a friendly gay Mormon guy trying to figure out my place in this life by finding a balance between my perceived inner demons and my better angels. I am a lover of good books, good music, good food and good friends.
Could you ask on what do the brethern base their idea that homosexuality is merely a condition of this life?
ReplyDeleteThank you.

ReplyDeleteI think you should ask "this blog's author"'s question. Everything else falls into line or falls apart according to the answer.
ReplyDelete@Ned -- The question at 12:24 is truly brilliant, even inspired.

ReplyDeleteGreat questions here, I honestly don't have anything else to add, but I'm curious to know how does the meeting go?
